Financial Aid
In Kentucky, the Kentucky
Higher Education Assistance Authority provides loans
to qualified students. Financial aid is also available from the United
States Department of Education in the form of grants,
loans, and work-study assistance. These Student
Financial Assistance Programs are the largest source
of financial aid in America. There are many internet
sites that offer free on-line searches for financial
aid information, grant and scholarship programs as
well as a variety of other education oriented information and
guidance.
School to Work
The School-to-Work Program is jointly administered by the
United
States Departments of Education and Labor. The School
to Work program in Kentucky prepares students to meet
the state’s current and future workforce needs. It seeks to
promote career education into every Kentuckian’s school
experience.
Workforce Investment
Act (WIA)
The Workforce
Investment Act of 1998 was enacted to consolidate,
coordinate, and improve employment, training, literacy, and
vocational rehabilitation programs in the United States.
In Kentucky the Workforce Development Cabinet's Department
of Training and ReEmployment is the state
agency responsible for the administration of the employment and
training programs funded by WIA. Services are available to
eligible adults, youth, and dislocated workers. The WIA legislation replaces the former
Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). The Barren River Area
Development District provides WIA services in the Barren River
Region of Kentucky.
